Dengue is endemic in Bangladesh. However, from 1 January to 7 August 2023 a total of 69483 confirmed dengue cases and 327 related deaths were reported.
The current outbreak is unusual in its early sharp increase and seasonality.
There is an outbreak of Nipah virus disease in several districts in Bangladesh (see map). This outbreak is related to the consumption of date palm sap.
